Gaming at Maryville University
Gaming at Maryville University is separated into three different branches – Maryville Esports, Maryville Academy, and the Maryville Gaming Club. We have two facilities on campus, the Esports Performance Center, and the Gaming Community Center. We host a hybrid-network of gamers from the main campus here in St. Louis, MO, to our online students across the globe. No matter your interests or skill level, there is something for everyone here at Maryville University. Below is more specific information about the programs we offer and ways for you to get involved!
Varsity
Maryville Esports is an in-person program that operates four varsity-level teams: Rocket League, Valorant, League of Legends, and Overwatch. Our goal is to push the limits of competition in both the collegiate and professional stages. With 11 National Championships, 31 Major Championships, and almost a dozen players sent to professional play, our mission is to serve as a guidepost for the overall academic esports ecosystem by operating with integrity, culture, and consistency.
Who is this for: Are you aspiring to win collegiate and play professionally? To apply you must be in the Top 200 (.02%) of your respective ranked ladder and have competitive team experience at a Tier 2 level.
Academy
Maryville Gaming Club is our student-led program with over 200 members. Our student leaders look to create a vibrant gaming community where you can meet other Maryville students with similar interests. We host events such as Smash Tournaments, Paint Night, Mario Kart Night, Trivia Night, Scaryville, Watch Parties, and more.
Who is this for: Those looking for a gaming community and friends to socialize with on campus and online. If you want to develop experience while at it, you may join the club board to learn how to manage a gaming club.
Maryville Academy is a hybrid (online and in-person) semi-competitive program dedicated to giving students a view into the world of Esports. Our teams are flexible with some being dedicated second teams to the esports program, and others taking a more relaxed approach. Create the university experience you want and learn from professional-level coaches and players along the way. Offering teams in League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, Valorant, Apex, Call of Duty, Super Smash Bros and more. $2,000 Club Scholarships available for accept students who are on an active academy team.
Who is this for: Academy features a more flexible experience. This can range from players looking to rise to the varsity level, or those who wish to have a lower-stress competitive experience. To apply you must be considered an avid gamer with consistent time logged into your game, there is no requirement on ranks. For our top Academy teams, we look for players in the top 5% of their respective ranked ladder.
